Biography: His father was known as the Fiocair (John Gillies). He was a fisherman his whole career. The last twenty years, he was on the ‘Kathryn’ with his three brothers. His brother Donnie was always the skipper of that boat, even though it was Murdo Gillies that had the skipper’s ticket. Murdo got his ticket when he was in the River Police on the River Thames. He was known as ‘The Banker’.
