Biography:

In the Highland Council’s Register of Interments her name is given as Kate Gillanders m.s. MacLean. She was the second wife of Donald Gillanders (Dòmhnall Òg). Kate was from Raasay (or Rona?). Dòmhnall Òg’s first wife was a MacRae, a sister of the Bachall. Kate (known as Bean DhòmhnaillÒig) had a son Neil (Nèill Dhòmhnaill Òig) who disappeared – perhaps to the United States of AMerica – around 1919/post-World War I.Nothing was ever heard of him again. Kate would go to ask any sailor returning from sea if they had seen any sign or heard anything about Neil. She used to ask Donald MacNair, Toscaig, (Dòmhnall Choinnich) to write to various people asking for information.
