Biography: Fisherman and crofter. Another brother, Angus, died 16th October 1950 in Culduie and is buried here with them but is not on commemorated on the stone, supposedly because his brothers disapproved of the fact that he had married a Mull woman who taught Highland dancing – an activity the very religious brothers frowned upon. This family had connections with Uist and so were known as “Na h-Uibhistich”. Whe Ali’s coffin was brought over from Kyle of the Loch Toscaig, the metal name plate, a legal requirement, was missing, but it was eventually decided to bury him without it. His brother Ruairidh an Uibhistich said words to the effect: “Tha fhios aig Dìa cò th’ ann, agus tha fhios againne cò th’ ann, agus tha fhios gun dèan sin a’ ghnòthach”. (“God knows who it is and we know who it is and that will do.”)
