Biography:

The ‘Bachall’ was famous for making his own whisky and for ‘smuggling’. He lived at one time on Eilean na Bà. The Bachall’s mother was a Margaret MacDonald, known as ‘Colla’ ; his father was Dunnchadh Dubh from Cuaig. The ‘Bachall’ is not marked on a gravestone of his own, but is buried in this area. The Bachall  had several brothers including: Duncan MacRae (Bachall Beag) who drowned returning from Plockton with whisky for his wedding;  Peter MacRae who also drowned in the Linne Aillseach (the area between Loch Kishorn, Kyle, Broadford and Crowlin; and John MacRae, who is also believed to have drowned. He had a sister Margaret, first wife of Dòmhnall Òg Gillanders of Toscaig.
