Biography: Eve Marie Lutz-MacKenzie was an internationally-known and respected molecular biologist. She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was raised in both the Midwest and Pennsylvania. Her ancestry was Scottish – from Inverness, the Isle of Lewis, and particularly from Applecross. Her Murchison forebears emigrated from Applecross to the United States of America in the mid-19th century. A memorial service was held in The Square, St Andrews, on 5 September 2011. It is planned that an international scientific gathering in 2012 will be named in her honour.
