Biography:

A fisherman, he was the first of the MacLeods from the Isle of Harris to come to Applecross. Strongly reputed to have been an illegitimate son of Lord Dunmore. An Ruadh married a sister of Dòmhnall Chròlaig (Donald MacLean), who was several years older than him. When he came ashore from Crowlin, he built the house that Ruairidh Sheòic (Roderick Gillanders) had in Upper Toscaig . Two widows – Banntrach Sheòic and Bean Dhòmhnaill Òig – were supposed to have fighting over him when he was widowed and he ended up marrying Banntrach Sheòic. As a result, Ruairidh Sheòic got that house The note ‘Erected by R.G., Toscaig’ refers to Roderick Gillanders (Ruairidh Sheòic).
