Biography:

It is thought that this Alexander MacRae was the gamekeeper who shot himself at Loch Gainmheach, which lies beside the track between Applecross Glen and Kenmore. The late Roddy MacRae, Milltown, told a story that his father Mortie Ali had built a small boat for the Middletons – they transported it on a cart to the head of Applecross glen, and a crew of estate workers then carried it the rest of the way to Loch Gainmheach. MacRae is believed to have shot himself in the boat, and was missing for several days. By the time his body was found it had begun to decompose, and no-one ever went near that boat again.
