Biography:

Decorated soldier in World War II; fisherman, county road worker, crofter. His famiy was originally from Cuaig and moved to Fearnamore.He was a fisherman on the ‘Isa’ for a while when she was a relatively new boat. He won the Distinguished Conduct Medal for actions while serving in the desert of north Africa: “Lance-Corporal D. Macbeath of the 5th Seaforth, when all the senior N.O.C.s of his platoon had been killed, and though he himself was severely wounded early in the attack, took command of his platoon and led them on to their final objective, where he handed his men over to an officer and then collapsed.”
