Biography: A crofter, Ruairidh Sheòic was born in Toscaig. His father was also from Toscaig and his mother was from Uags. He was of the same Gillanders as Isabella Gillanders, wife of Ewen Kennedy. Latterly, he was a crofter, but he had also been a fisherman for a time. He was an informant to the School of Scottish Studies’ Scottish Place Name Survey in 1971. It is believed that Roderick and Mary MacCuish got married in Strathcarron Hotel.
