Biography:

Information from Highland Council’s Register of Interments, which commenced in 1927. The lair owner when he died was the deceased himself. He was related to the MacDonalds in Camusteel known as Shonan and Never, through marriage. Tha ‘Isa Wood’ went to Lonbain to collect his furniture when he moved from Lonbain to Camusteel. There was a large, heavy trunk which Alick Cameron and Donald Gillies (Dollachan, Angus Gillies’ father) carried down to the boat. Ruairidh MhicMhathainn said then: “Cò thogadh sin ach ogha Dhòmhnaill Gillies agus iar-ogha Dhòmhnaill Gillies?” This original Donald Gillies was known as Bibby, and was regarded as the strongest man in the area., despite having been so small when he was born that he was put in a cotton wool box when he was born.
